So right now i am eating frozen pizza, drinking red wine and watching the opening of the Olympics!!! Tomorrow is my birthday and i am feeling happy.... i think this year coming is going to be great!!
Last week i went to Idaho to go skiing and i have to say that i have not laughed that hard for a very long time! i skied two days straight which was longer than i have ever before and had a great time!!
i am slowly but surely getting better at skiing! i really like it!
Other than that i have not been doing very much! i have been heading up the ski hill to practice and meet friends.
Tomorrow the plan is to work and bake in the morning.. then i am going to Michele's for a some drinks and appetizers then heading to the lounge at the ski hill to have drinks with friends... after we are heading out dancing!! so i think it will be a great birthday!
I am really looking forward to seeing my sister in new york in April!! I just cant wait!! im hoping to be able to drive across! Marian is engaged and i am just so excited for her!!! I feel the distance when this happens though... i still havnt spoken to her but from what i hear she is busy and has alot to do but is really happy!

Well im almost through my first winter and it has been a blast!!! I am learning to ski! today i went skating on the lake.. the olympic torch came through this little town and Australia day was awesome in the cafe and even better when it ended with a beautiful lamb roast dinner...

Skiing is great fun.. really hard and i have soooo many bruises but my friend Wendy took me up the chair lift last week and i went down the big hill... i dont think i have fallen so many times in my life but i got down (almost cried) but i did it!
Wendy and Kathy and Candace and I are planning to go to Idahoe to go skiing in a week or so! so practice practice practice this week!!!! It is going to be a girls weekend and should be really fun!
Skating on the lake was so so so good today! I fell and have a massive bruise on my knee but it was worth it! The sun was shining and the mountains looked unbelievable with the snow on top and we were able to skate out into the middle of the lake and enjoy the sun!!!
People drive across the lake in the winter has a short cut to get from where i live to town so we then drove across the lake to get home... to add to a perfect afternoon the sun was setting and it was incrediable!
Australia day was so fun!!! I made lamingtons, meat pies, caramel slice, ANZAC cookies, pavolva and had a sausage sizzle.. i was so tired after cooking so much but had a great time listening to Australian music and just talking to people about home!
After work and a few Australian beers i went to Finn and Wendy's house and they made a lamb roast! We drank some aussie wine and just chilled out! It was awesome!
The olympic torch was just so amazing! we live in such a small town and to have people run it through was so so cool!
well there have been a few other exciting things like Ashten (a staff member from Gloria Jeans) was in Banff so i went with some friends to see her...
The Hoodoo's had a gala dinner and everyone that went dressed up and it was such a awesome night!! the food was great and there was a ice bar and some other cool things...

Overall Jan 2010 has been great!!!

I miss you all and hope you also had a great Jan!

So in 8 weeks my job ends... i can stay if i would like... or do i go for a months holiday and come back and work the summer..... or do i leave and move somewhere else in Canada... or come home to Australia............

Well i have not written in a while and lots has been happening around here!! It has got as cold as -30!! Its so insane how cold that is... especially when i am trying to unlock the coffee shop door at 530am and its frozen!! Today however its +5 so now all the snow has turned to ice and its a little slippery when you drive....
Last night a few friends and i went to invermere for a drink and we drove home on the lake!!! Its scary driving on the lake but fun as well!!!! Last night though there was lots of water cause it had started to melt!! my heart was racing!
I am loving winter! it has been so fun learning how to ski! i am now using poles and next time i am going to go up the chair lift!!! im proud of myself! I like being able to ski!
Claire and Justin came just before christmas and i spent a great week with them! I was able to show them around this cute little town and spend some good time together!
After they left my friend Jess came to stay for a couple of weeks...
We had christmas together! It was fun.. all the people that didnt have family for christmas came to my place and we had a good time! New years we just went to the bar down the road and had some drinks... Overall it has been great but really really busy!
Australia day is coming up and Merryn (the other australian) that works in the coffee shop and i are planning a really fun day! we are going to make meat pies, caramel slice, lamingtons.. we are going to serve australian beer and over all have a great day!
i feel like the last 2 or 3 months have been so busy i just have not had time to do anything or catch up with anyone! So friends and family i am really sorry! I think things will start to settle down now and life will be normal again!
I will post some pictures of the last few months here in the next couple of days..

Wow it was such a quick visit home and these are just a few pictures from a two week whirl wind trip!!!
I had a great time! even though i was home cause my nan was at the end of her life it was nice to be with family and friends for a while! About 2 hours after i landed back in Canada she died!! Really bad timing up who's to know..
The sun was so nice and heading to the beach was awesome!!! It made me realise how much i really miss Sydney! It was so good getting into the sun and seeing the beach! It is -28 degrees here today and looking back through these photos makes me want to come home and enjoy the sun! However it has been fun expereincing this!! Yesterday Candace, Matt and i drove to Calary in my car that has no heat!!! It was -20 on the way there and -30 on the way home!!! It was beyond cold!!! But a fun experence! I am going to learn to snow board and ski and enjoy this weather!
People have there christmas lights up and snow has started falling!!! Justin and Claire will be here on Monday for 1 week and im excited to hangout with them and show them this valley!!!

Wow you guys it has been such a long time since i wrote on here!!! I'm so sorry! After mum and dad left it seems to have been quite busy and i have just run out of time! Alot has been happening.. I went for a trip to Victoria on Vancouver island for 4 days which was so nice! i just loved hanging out with Jess and relaxing.. we went to cafes, shopped.. i discovered value village which is like vinnies but ordered and huge!!! I got 4 jackets for $40.. We also went on a day trip to the beach! It was so good. i forgot how much i love the sounds of the ocean. the seagulls, the crashing waves.. there were only rocks though so i just imagined the sand! all in all a awesome day!
The cafe has been going well. It is slowing down now since summer has ended which has been nice to catch up on things. I feel like now i can work at sorting out a few things and hopefully move the cafe forward even more...
I had some awesome news the other day and that is that Justin and Clare are coming to visit me in December!! Im so excited! It will be so nice to show them around this place.. it is so beautiful and i know they will enjoy it! (hopefully its not going to be to cold!!)
I had my first thanksgiving last weekend which was so nice! I went to michele's on saturday night and then drove to Calary and had Thanksgiving dinner with Steph and her family..
I stayed in Calary for a few nights and woke up in the morning and there was snow everywhere.. It was great! Driving in the snow was a litttle crazy however..
Ok so i think that is all my news... i will try to update this blog a little more often.. i miss and love you all heaps..

The other day i woke up at 5am to start work at 5.30.. everytime it kills me.. i went into the store and baked cinnamon buns, muffins and scones and made soup as per usual. This part of my day was very normal.. after work i had a nanna nap and then decided to go to the Windermere fall fair.. I went with a friend of mine Darren.. there was a 162 pound pumpkin (which every fair must have!)

However Darren had a infection in his leg which suddenly felt worse so it was off to the hospital we went.. After spending a few hours in emergeny the best place to go was to have a few beers on the deck at the coffee shop.. Well for a normal day that might have been enough but no.. we then decided that we needed to go fishing.. we got organised and heading down to the creek.. Darren taught me how to fish... Tara and John were there as well. It was so nice to hangout with these guys.. i have not done that in ages.. We didnt catch anything but i did manage to get hooked on a few very large rocks.. quite skillful i thought!!!

Well if that wasnt enough the night ended with visiting Susan's place to feed the cats... once we were inside i couldn't find one cat so i opened the back door to look for it and there was a black bear.. no kidding

It looked at me.. and i looked at it and then i shut the door and screamed... the others chased it away but it was so close to me... crazy!!! so the night ended with a fire on the deck at Doug and susans....

I honestly think it had to be one of the most fun yet longest days i have had for a while...

Well i have been to a few weddings in my life but i have to say that this one was diffenately one of the best! I had so much fun! There was awesome food, company and dancing! It was so relaxed and so much fun!! Michele looked awesome and her and Al are just such a great couple!!!
My photos are not great but my battery died.
Jess is moving to Victoria so we had a little farewell on the deck at the coffee shop. Its so nice out there. The view of the mountains and the sun make me want to hangout out there all the time.
This was a very big weekend!! But very fun!

Well it has been a while since i wrote on my blog and that has mostly to do with mum and dad coming to visit! I just dropped them at the airport and i have to say that was the hardest part of the entire trip... Mum and dad stayed in my one bedroom appartment and we lived on top of each other for to weeks but the hardest part of everything was the goodbye!!!
We had a fantastic time!!! I got to show them all around this place and it was great to catch up on there news and just be with them..

So last night Sal and I went to Hoodstock. A local music festival and had a great time... Just thought i would show you some pictures... well they were the only ones i took.

So today has been my first day off for a few weeks.. I have pretty much stayed on the lounge.. watched way to much TV and done nothing. It was funny though i can see some cars belonging to my neighbours drive past by my front door and i was watching them and then a deer randomly walks up to my door.. looks in and walks away.. i wish i could have grabbed my camera quicker but that was the highlight of my day today..

This week was Canada day.. i worked in the morning but had the afternoon off so went up to the ski hill where the festivities were and listened to a band and chilled out for a little while.. i had dinner with Tara and Jess and then later that night i met some friends and watched the fireworks as the sun was setting. It was great!!

I got my mole removed this week! so i have 5 stitches but they will be removed Wednesday! The doctor doesn't think it is anything to be worried about (after he took it out) but now i have to wait for the result.

I went for a big bike ride on Monday. ( i bought a bike for $20, its purple and white and i love it) It was great fun! Candace, Anna and i rode to the Hoodoo's, walked up them and then rode back. It took about 2 hours!! i was so proud of myself for being able to do it! Don't get me wrong i was exhausted after but it was worth it..

Sally and Aaron got engaged last week!!! Thats news i forgot to write about!! Its exciting.. I'm going wedding dress shopping in a couple of weeks to Calary. Its such a honour that she wants me to come! They are getting married in Australia in May which is so exciting for them!

So you think tou can fight

Well today i am lying on the lounge feeling a little sorry for myself because i had a mole removed today. Having the mole removed was not such a big deal but the place the mole is in is awkward and with 5 stitchers very sore....

Yesterday i went for a bike ride, hiked up the Hoodoo's and then cycled back. It took about 2 hours and i was so proud of myself for being able to do it! Candace and Anna came with me.. they are young fit and stunning... i was a little behind but still managed to finish!!!

This month i have had a great time.. I have been to "so you think you can fight!!" which was a crazy night! Locals basically punch each other until there is a winner! I know i might sound like a snob but it was very country!

I also went on the most amazing drive this month. I went to meet my friend Jess in Jasper. The icefield parkway was the most stunning drive i have ever been on. I think it is meant to take 4 hours however it look me 6 because i was so blown away and had to stop every 5 minutes.
Anyone who comes and visits me i will take your there for sure!!

Last week i flew to Vancouver and visited my friend Jill! It was so nice to catch up with a friend i havn't seen for a couple of years. We had a great time! It started with a scary airplane ride.. The landing gear would not come down and after 45 extra minutes in the air with some scared people we landed with a big round of applause!!

I'm a little sad that jill will be home in oz in a few weeks but i am glad i got to spend the time with her i did!!

Other than these things i think that is all my news!! I will try and blog more often.

This week i went to Lake Louise with a friend from here named Jess. She is a tour director and her tour was stopping there for the night so i joined her and we had a awesome time. The view was so amazing!! I spent a couple of hours the next day just sitting by the lake captivated by how stunning it is.. The gondola view over the lake was pretty cool as well.
This was one of the highlights for the week.
I guess the second one was that Michele the cook from work made a turkey lunch as the special this week. Since i cant remember ever having one it was so good! This lunch was definitely in the top 5 meals of all time.. she is so amazing! She laughed when i took a photo.. i think they think I'm mad!
My foot update is that i have broken a bone in my foot and it will take between 6 to 8 weeks to heal! the good news is that i don't need a cast. I'm meant to stay off it! haha i have to work but i will go easy.
Sally's parents are out here at the moment and we had dinner the other night. It was fun. In the photo we are drinking beergaritas! so tasty!! it was lovely to see them and they are around next week as well so I'm sure i will catch up with them again. They brought more Vegemite! so awesome! mine was empty.
That's about it for my week people.. not much to report! I'm excited about mum and dad coming here in August!!

Well the May long weekend here was everything that i had been warned about... busy busy busy..
We did record sales and it was flat out with a queue to the door.. it was fun though. So after working for 10 days straight i was so tired.. Joie i needed you to come and cook me dinner! Anyway i just had the last two days off and it was great!
I got up on Saturday morning and went to get my nose pieced. I was on my own but it didn't matter. I had been thinking it through for the past week and decided i should just do it. My eyes watered a stack but it wasn't that painful. Now i love it.
When i got back i was invited to a BBQ with some friends i had met. This was fun until i tripped over and landed on my foot which is now very sore! It's so crazy that i manage to fall and look silly mainly when i am meeting people for the first time. Anyway, I worked on it today and it was fine. So parents do not worry..
So lets do i quick recap.. in 7 weeks of being here i have misplaced my passport, over flowed a toilet, locked myself out of my place, run out of petrol, lost my car keys and hurt my ankle in front of strangers... i think I'm impressive! lol. Can't wait for the next 7 weeks....
The photos of the view are just a couple of places where i am living. I just get overwhelmed by this area! Its so stunning..

The last 10 or so days...

Well i know i havn't updated my blog for a while but i have been busy with work. This coming weekend id the May longweekend here and its the start of the busy season.
Work is going along great. It is a good place to work. Every workplace has its things and this is no different but the things are normal. I have been working on getting the customers to try different kinds of coffee local to this area as Steph wants to change the brand. Thats a little exciting! We are also getting gelato for summer and it is made by the mayor in his garage. He is 26, makes gelato in the garage, owns a cafe and is the mayor of invermere.. crazy hey.. also a little funny.
Today i had the day off so decided to go for a drive to Banff. It is so beautiful there. Its a bigger town than here but still small compared to Sydney. It was about a two hour drive and a fantastic drive! i bought myself lunch and sat and read for a couple of hours.. it was so good. then drove back and it snowed.. a little scary but light so it was fine.
I have settled into my place well. Day four after just moving in i did manage to lock myself out however. I left the rod standing in the sliding door and as i closed it, it fell. I also left the chain on the inter-connecting door. Sally sent me a u-tube video of how to unlock a chain from the other side. So my friend Jess and i set off to unlock the place.. it worked.. amazing!
I also ran out of petrol in my car the same day. It always happens to me! Anyway Michele my friend from work helped me out with that. These people have been so generous to me!
Anyway i will put up some photos soon...

It has been a good week.. there are a few reasons why... Firstly it was snow, i have already written about how excited i was but the next morning i woke up and it had covered my car! i thought that was great so i took a little photo.. (I did try and hide from the locals as i took the photo for fear of a few laughs) It was at this point i knew it was going to be a good week!

I had a day off work on Sunday so Sal, Aaron and I spent the night in Cranbrook with Aaron's parents. Sal and I treated ourselves to a girly night full of Indian food and a few beverages while Aaron and his mates played some board games. The next day we went to a small country town which is about an hour from Cranbrook. Its called Fernie. Its really cute and i had a fantastic and cheap breakfast!! we then had a great time just having a look in the shops and being overwhelmed again by how beautiful it is.

Work this week has been good. I am starting to feel like i have an idea about what is going on. At first i was really overwhelmed by all the cooking and baking that these amazing women do every day but now i think its great! i am excited to learn and bring these new skills back home.

Also this week i decided that i would change my name back to my maiden one as best as i can. All documents and official stuff cant be changed but my email and facebook etc etc can.. i will also checkout my blog and see if i can change that to... I feel free! This was a good call.
The funny thing was i decided to change my name as i was trying to work out what to do with a overflowing toilet. I'm not sure what the connection with wee and avis is, but somehow in my brain at 2.30am they were connected! hehe The problem with the loo was fixed by a plumber and its not a nice story but a very very funny one! ( i guess mainly for me cause i was at work while Sal dealing with the situation)

I also received a package from home this week which was so nice! Mum sent me some clothes but also a boomerang necklace to make sure i would come home. It is really nice and i love it!!! Thanks mum.

I am moving into my own place tomorrow and so tonight i drove an hour and a half, each way, to Cranbrook where the shopping is cheaper to get some things for the place. I took two girls from work who also wanted to go. It was a funny trip. One of them sung Celine Dion in french for us, i struggled to remember what side of the road to drive on because i was distracted and then driving home we saw a moose on the side of the road! Its scary driving at night with all the crazy animals around.

Tomorrow Sal and I are going to some garage sales to see what we can find and then I'm off to set up my new place!

Oh my gosh it is snowing!!! I'm at work and it just started! I have never seen it snow before. I have seen ice and a glacier and been on the snow but never seen it fall from the sky! Its great. Except that i would feel like an idiot, i would do a little dance but the people around here are over the snow and think my excitement is a little over the top!

I don't have my camera with me but if there is snow tomorrow i will take a photo for you all.

So now i am back to working but i will fill you in more really soon.

My first week

So i have come to the end of my first week here in Canada and i survived but not without a great amount of support, help and love from some people.
I know i have said it before and will probably say it again but Sal is so lovely and helps me with what i need. She is a amazing woman! The girls at work are so kind and accepting of me and i think it will be a lot of fun.
This place is beautiful and i think a lot of healing will be done here. God is so good, everything has come together and people have been so generous!
I think i have even found a place to live and i have a car and a job so everything is working out.
Today is so cold and i made the mistake of wearing sandals to go for a walk.. I'm not sure what i was thinking! Two locals even made a little comment about my toes.. i obviously still have a lot to learn. It hasn't snowed yet! i was hoping it would but then a little worried about driving in it!
Anyway I'm off to the Laundromat and then to work. I really miss home and all of you guys. I hope you are well..

I have bought the best car in the world. Its blue, it bounces, and its a smoooooth ride. It is the coolest car i have ever owned... i have attached some photos for you guys to look at... I have so far worked two shifts at my new work. It is pretty cool. The staff are really nice and very welcoming. I think i will love it. It will just take some getting used to. It is alot quieter than Gloria Jeans but about the same as Pages.
I have only just been here a week and i have a great car, great job and hopefully in not to long a place to live on my own. I do love living with Sal and Aaron but i would like to experience being on my own.. I cant even imagine how crazy it must have been for Sal being here on her own cause it is really tough for me and i have a friend that knows the ropes but anyway i'm enjoying it so far... i do miss everyone from home a stack.
I did however find some hot cross buns which was a nice supprise however i forgot it was easter this weekend... everything has been happening. anyway happy easter everyone!! i will update you soon. xxx

This country is crazy:
1/ I woke up and there were deer in our backyard!!
2/ The cheese is orange
3/ There is skim, 2%, 4% and whole milk... who knows which is which
4/ People go to work everyday and look at all day perhaps the most beautiful view i have ever seen!
5/ entrees are appetisers, mains are entrees and i hope dessert is dessert!
and finally they sell mostly Australian wines.. i did buy a BC wine just because i wanted to taste what they produce...

All in all though i am having a good time and looking forward to my first day at work tomorrow! Sal and Aaron have been great, patient, kind and generous!!

On my first full day with Sal and Aaron we went for a drive and after being really nervous i only went on towards the wrong side of the road twice. Quite a good result i think!! It was fun in the end. They also took me up to Fairmont ski resort to have a look. I know i have said it before but it is so beautiful!!! This afternoon Sal and I went for a walk and it was about 12 degrees.. so hot we had a ice cream!!! Mum we had a look at the shops and you would love it here!!
This week is full of adventures! Just tomorrow, i get my phone, social insurance number, bank account and drive on my own to do it! I really miss everyone!

Today i arrived in Invermere and on first impressions it is so beautiful! The mountains with snow on top are jaw dropping! Sal and Aaron picked me up from Spokane after a very early flight from San Fran today. The drive from Spokane to Invermere was about 5 hours but longer with the stops and border check. (which went very well with no problems)
My day yesterday in San Fran was fun. I went on the cable car around the city and that was good, i went over the iron gate bridge, sat in union square, went on a tour of the city and after all that went back to my room and crashed!
After leaving my passport at a desk in the airport and then having to run like a mad woman to get it again once i realised.. i only miss placed my camera but it was in my bag in the end so no other mishaps..
It has been great but also hard. I do miss everyone alot and its hard to think about being here and not with you guys but it is beautiful here and i'm excited about seeing what lays ahead. Sal and Aaron have been so lovely and looked after me which has been fantastic! I'm going to go for my first drive on the wrong side of the road tomorrow... scary.... i will let you know how it goes.

A new adventure...

So in 2 days I will be leaving...going on a jet plane to Canada! Why am I going you might ask? Well, it's time for a change, time for something new...time for an adventure! I am scared and nervous, and can't believe I am actually going! I will miss everyone...but it is time to do something for me...
